Georgia Southern Receives Multi-Million Dollar Software Donation
Atlanta and Dallas - February 23, 2004 - Georgia Southern University announced today a donation of software from i2 Technologies Inc. (OTC: ITWO) and Chainalytics to the Logistics and Intermodal Transportation program in the College of Business Administration.
The multi-million dollar software donation comes after an exhaustive search for a technology partner that included discussions with industry experts and extensive literature reviews.
The faculty in the Logistics and Intermodal Transportation (LIT) program identified i2 Supply Chain Strategist as a leading planning tool that it believes will help fulfill the strategic vision of the program. The gift of the i2 software is complemented by Chainalytics' contribution of services to support installation, training and curriculum development.
"This is a prime example of how partnerships between a corporation and a university work to the benefit of both," Georgia Southern President Bruce Grube said. "Our partnerships with i2 and Chainalytics will take our students to the leading edge of logistical strategies and solutions for moving goods through the supply chain to the right markets at the lowest cost.
"In turn, our graduates will take their knowledge of this planning tool into the workplace as they pursue their careers."
Chainalytics President Mike Kilgore was instrumental in bringing together Georgia Southern and i2 and making this donation a reality.
"The skills required to apply advanced decision sciences tools are scarce and valuable in the field of supply chain management," Kilgore said. "Georgia Southern is quickly becoming a leading university for developing logistics talent, and we expect this software will only augment their leadership."
"We believe there are countless companies throughout the world that can save millions of dollars by making their supply chains more efficient," said Janet Eden-Harris, i2 executive vice president and chief marketing officer. "Through the donation of this software, we aim to expose these future business leaders to components of a closed-loop supply chain process that we believe is essential to helping companies achieve the highest levels of efficiency and profitabilty."
i2's Supply Chain Strategist is a scenario-based strategic planning tool that supports key strategic decisions at each stage of the supply chain, from raw materials procurement through finished goods distribution.
The LIT major at Georgia Southern resides in the Department of Management, Marketing and Logistics. Entering its second decade, the undergraduate program consists of over 100 majors. Students have started their careers with leading transportation providers and shippers from across the United States.
The LIT program is planning to use the software and training in a majority of the required courses for logistics majors.
"We are in the process of developing a distinct class where i2 Supply Chain Strategist would serve as the vehicle for teaching more about optimizing supply chains," said Dr. Karl B. Manrodt, faculty member in the LIT program. "Without the support of i2 and Chainalytics, we would be unable to provide this valuable curriculum enhancement to our students."
Dr. Ron Shiffler, dean of Georgia Southern's College of Business Administration, added, "The gift will assist our students in developing these critical skill sets and making them more attractive to employers."
