Transportation Management System (TMS) Value Assurance
What Is It?
Chainalytics' TMS Value Assurance service offering provides a framework and methodology to maximize the value that your transportation systems deliver to your organization.
Capitalizing on our extensive "real world" industry experience with the leading transportation technologies, the TMS Value Assurance service helps you understand where the short and long-term opportunities exist to add significant value to the organization and puts a specific program in place to deliver and measure the value identified.
Chainalytics is not in the software business, nor do we offer systems integration services. We are technology neutral which allows us to remain objective in our assessment of the opportunities that exist with your transportation systems. Our recommendations are based strictly on ensuring our clients receive the most value possible from the technology investments they have made or will need to make.
We understand that for a TMS to deliver sustainable, measurable value, 3 key areas must be well aligned:
- People
- Processes
- Technology
Transportation is an extremely complicated business function. It has cross-functional touch-points throughout an organization, to include manufacturing, sales, marketing, finance, logistics, and IT. To achieve the full benefit from your TMS business processes and incentives across these functions must be aligned. Furthermore, having inexperienced or unknowledgeable people supporting the transportation activities can prevent even the best designed systems and processes from ultimately being effective.
Chainalytics' TMS Value Assurance service helps identify, minimize and/or eliminate issues that are resident within your company which are not allowing the full value of the transportation system to be realized.
What Do We Do?
The Chainalytics TMS Value Assurance service has 4 main components. When you follow the steps below in the proper sequence, you will establish an executable plan to deliver significant value to your organization. The elements are the following:
- Quantify the Opportunity. Using rigorous quantitative methods, detail the major areas for improvement and quantify the benefits to be obtained.
- Map the Path to Value. Determine what needs to change in order to realize the quantifiable benefits. This will typically entail making changes to processes inside an organization and may require technology and staffing enhancements as well. This step produces a realistic plan that addresses the key stakeholder needs.
- Select Tools and Deploy or Reconfigure to Achieve Value. This step is important but is often done too early in the process. You should choose software and services only once you clearly understand what value they should enable. Once the right tools are in place, their deployment, configuration and tuning should be driven by the value targets established earlier in the process.
- Measure and Monitor. No value delivery program is fully successful without a robust and ongoing means to measure value attainment. This typically requires a properly supported analytics environment with senior management buy-in as well as properly trained users to keep the process on track.
Chainalytics consultants can assist you in applying our methodology within your organization to identify operational improvements and capture cost savings. Our broad experience allows us to find improvement opportunities quickly and create realistic plans to achieve their associated benefit.
Is It Right For You?
The TMS Value Assurance Program can help you if:
- Your Transportation Management System (TMS) users complain that it's not working as well as it was supposed to when you bought it.
- You have been tasked with improving transportation costs but don't know what to do to identify and capture them.
- You have been told you need a TMS but you are not sure which one.
- You are installing a TMS and want to make sure that it's deployed most effectively and the benefits the software vendor sold you on are actually realized.
- You wonder how your transportation operations are performing (but don't really know) against best-in-class.
